In the news, mispelled knuckle tattoos

Filed under: 4x4, In the News, Man Hands — Nathan Black @ 9:07 pm

The Huffing Post has an article on misspelled tattoos. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long to get to the set of knuckle tattoos pictured below.

tattoo should be spell checked

To read the rest of the article check out: Misspelled Tattoos: Permanent And Hilarious. I think I would have said permanent and tragic instead of “hilarious”, but that is just me.

Out on adventure!

Filed under: Site News — Nathan Black @ 10:49 am

Hey y’all,

Sorry I haven’t been as good with the updates here lately. I’ll be getting back on that in mid October. Right now my big news is that I am on a month long tour of the US thanks to the jetBlue all-you-can-jet pass. I’ve been getting a city stamp with the airport code for each city I’ve been in tattooed on my arm. I have also been talking to a bunch of people about their knuckle tattoos. I’ll be posting those when I get back and sort out my pictures.

My next stop is New York City. If y’all have any suggestions on who to see for my tattoo there, or whose knuckle tattoos I should track down, let me know at nathan@knuckletattoos.com

Oh, and check out my trip blog if you are interested: 30 Days in the Air

See you in NYC,

Nathan Black

Tonight I got to hang out with Bones DeLarge of The Lower Class Brats fame. We talked knuckle tattoos (naturally) and rockers local and international. Bones asked if he sent me a picture tonight if it would be on the website tomorrow. The answer is yes, they are.

Now send me the story when you get the chance!

“COSY” JEFF and “FAT SAM”

Filed under: Knuckle Tattoos, Man Hands, Story — BillCohen @ 7:50 am

Back in March, I ran into a couple of blokes in an ATM vestibule at the
corner of 24th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan.

I say “blokes” because both men were visiting from England. One of them,
Jethro “Jeff” Wood
, is a tattoo artist and considerably inked. His pal, Sam, was likewise decorated.

I posted photos of some of their work on my blog Tattoosday here.

But I held something back from the post. Of course, both men had Knuckle Tattoos.

First off we have Jeff’s “COSY” which is the Anglicized version of “cozy”:

Why “COSY”? Because, Jeff said with a gleam in his eye, “My bird loves
being cosy”. By bird, of course, he did not mean his parakeet, but his
girl. I’d elaborate further, but I don’t want to have to spell everything
out, okay?

Next was Jeff’s friend Sam, who sported these knuckles:

“Why FAT SAM?” I asked. He just smiled, patted his small (by American
standards) beer belly and said it was because he was so fat!

It was a treat meeting these two guys and even more fun talking to them about their tattoos.

Thanks to Jeff and Sam for sharing their digital ink here with us on

SINK SWIM

Filed under: 4x4, Double Decker, Knuckle Tattoos, Man Hands, My Photos, Thumbs — Nathan Black @ 8:38 am

I’ve been talking with Finny for ages now and I finally got it together to post his knuckles. Here they are along with the stories behind them:

swim_sink

What would Finny do? SINK SWIM is his yin and yang. Has a devil side and and an angel side, and tattoos themed to match. Thus his swim is on his "good" side, comedy, his mom. SINK on his left for the bad, tragedy, father.

swim_sink_full

Fruits and veggies - his mom said he needed somethign to remind him to eat his fruits and veggies every day. He is going down the path of organic farming.

lobster

The Crawfish/Lobster. The only piece of Sailor Jerry flash on his body. Sailor Don, busted out actual Sailor Jerry Red and mixed it with everclear. Salt and pepper shakers adorn to add a little spice.

RIG4 DIVE

Don Nux shows us that sweet, sweet knuckle tattoos aren’t just for kids any more, anyone who is dedicated enough can express their passion on their hands:

Here’s a pic of my knuckle tats. They are about 4-6 months old. The meaning (RIG4 DIVE) is to rig the ship for diving, a term heard on board a submarine while surfaced, but getting ready to go deep. Yeah, I was a submarine sailor.
